The “brain-machine interface” developed by Hitachi Inc. (HIT) analyzes slight changes in the brain’s blood flow and translates brain motion into electric signals. A cap connects by optical fibers to a mapping device, which links, in turn, to a toy train set via a control computer and motor during one recent demonstration at Hitachi’s Advanced Research Laboratory in Hatoyama, just outside Tokyo. “Take a deep breath and relax,” said Kei Utsugi, a researcher, while demonstrating the device on Wednesday. At his prompting, a reporter did simple calculations in her head, and the train sprang forward — apparently indicating activity in the brain’s frontal cortex, which handles problem solving. Activating that region of the brain — by doing sums or singing a song — is what makes the train run, according to Utsugi. When one stops the calculations, the train stops, too.Underlying Hitachi’s brain-machine interface is a technology called optical topography , which sends a small amount of infrared light through the brain’s surface to map out changes in blood flow. brain machine brain technology Business control computer control electronics electric signals electronic devices foxnews Gaming hitachi japan News Tech |

There are plenty of applications that let you stream your iTunes library to other computers via a local network or the Web—but MyTunesRSS has the distinct advantage of being free and platform-independent. After some painless configuration settings, you can use the Wii’s browser to access, search, and play your iTunes library from the comfort of the living room. Pretty cool. —John Mahoney Check out the full instructions here. [Hackaddict.net via MAKE] – Wow…the Wii as a Music Jukebox. Nintendo should really open up their console to 3rd parties to compete with the Apple TV, DVR and TiVo. There’s alot of horsepower in those consoles…who says they only have to play games? U.S. shoppers snapped up 436,000 Wii units in January, according to figures from market research firm NPD. The console debuted in November for $250 and features a motion-sensing controller that has helped build buzz for the machine. The second-best-selling console was Sony Corp.’s (SNE) 7-year-old PlayStation 2, which moved 299,000 units and outsold Microsoft Corp.’s (MSFT) Xbox 360 and Sony’s newer but more expensive PlayStation 3, the data showed. – If you don’t already have a Wii, you should after you buy an Xbox 360 with Xbox LIVE (that’s the only real thing that makes the Xbox worth it). Nothing like seeing your father try to play Wii Tennis!!! Or your girl friend trying to ‘pump-it’, if you know what I mean. Seems that the guys over at Nintendo have really done something revolutionary…reinvent the controller. If I was a developer I would be clamoring to come up with some new ways to use the controller. I’m surprised Lucas Arts hasn’t come out with a Star Wars Jedi game yet - I bet that alone would sell 500,000 more units! foxnews Gaming News nintendo wii video game console |

Electronic Arts Inc. has sold the movie rights for “The Sims,” the best-selling computer game, of all time to 20th Century Fox, Variety said on Friday. “The Sims” is one of EA’s biggest franchises and, including sequels and expansions such as “The Sims: House Party” and “The Sims: Vacation,” has sold nearly 85 million copies since it debuted seven years ago. Oft-described as a “virtual dollhouse,” the game puts players in charge of simulated people, helping them make friends, find satisfying jobs and buy household items in order to stay happy. “The Sims has done an interactive version of an old story, which is what it’s like to have infinite power and how do you deal with it,” the Hollywood industry paper quoted Rod Humble, head of The Sims Studio at EA, as saying. “The Sims” was created by legendary game designer Will Wright, known for his quirky titles that eschew linear storylines in favor of letting players create and explore their own worlds. Variety did not mention financial terms of the deal. Spokesmen for EA and Fox could not immediately be reached for comment. Fox is owned by News Corp.. > Great…I wonder what’s next?
